Solar SP C-Tech Traveller Power Barrow Review

The SP C-Tech Traveller is Solar's compact power barrow, built to make getting your gear around a venue faster and easier. It takes the thinking behind the full-size SP C-Tech and packs it into a smaller, lighter frame.

What stands out most is how much is squeezed into a barrow this size. A 150-watt, 24V in-hub motor does the pulling, and the whole thing packs down small enough for smaller vehicles. It's feature-rich, but all of it serves a purpose. If you're short on boot space or storage at home but still want powered help on long walks, the Traveller should be on your shortlist.

One thing to be clear on from the start: it's sold without batteries, so you need to budget for those on top.

How well is it built?

Everything about the Traveller feels robust for a compact barrow. The batteries sit in a durable metal housing designed to give them maximum protection, and the electronics live in a fully watertight CPU storage box.

That gives peace of mind when you're fishing in poor weather or through winter.

The rear legs are adjustable and the handle height runs from 69.5cm to 80cm, so you can set it up to suit your height and the ground you're on.

The included SP C-Tech camo Drop-Loc under-barrow bag is a premium touch. It adds to the sense that this is a well-engineered tool designed by people who actually fish.

At 17.9kg it's light for a powered barrow, and it still carries a maximum load of 110kg.

Manoeuvrability

Manoeuvrability is where the Traveller really stands out. The main frame is just 88cm long and 55.5cm wide, which makes tight paths and narrow gates far less of a battle than with a full-size power barrow.

The 150w in-hub motor is rated for smooth, reliable performance across all types of terrain, and at 17.9kg there's far less barrow to move around when the power is off.

The adjustable rear legs and variable handle height let you walk in a comfortable upright stance without stooping.

Swivel mud feet add stability on uneven ground when you stop. It's clear a lot of thought has gone into getting this right.

Storage Capacity

This is a compact barrow, so it doesn't swallow kit the way the full-size SP C-Tech does. But it uses its space well.

The Drop-Loc under-barrow bag holds plenty of essentials and has integrated side access, so you can get to them even when gear is stacked on top.

Eight Loc-Down fixing points let you strap the load down securely, and the 110kg maximum load capacity means weight is rarely the limit.

For day sessions and overnighters it's a practical system that makes session prep faster and cleaner. For a week-long trip with everything including the kitchen sink, you'll want the bigger barrow.

Is it good value for money?

At around £600, the Traveller costs far less than the full-size power barrows, and you still get a 24V in-hub motor, sealed electronics and the Drop-Loc bag. A charger is supplied too.

The catch is that batteries aren't included, so factor those into the real price before you compare it with barrows that come with them.

Even so, for anglers who want powered help without the size, weight and cost of a flagship barrow, the SP C-Tech Traveller is a strong choice.
