Product Information
For long-range surfcasting with a lightweight 80-120g rod, Shimano’s compact Ultegra 5500 XSD balances the outfit without overpowering it. Its dark silver metallic frame and machined aluminium handle give the reel its silver and gunmetal appearance.
The AR-C spool has an angled lip that lets line leave with minimal friction and maintain speed on distance casts.
X-Ship supports the pinion gear and positions it centrally on the drive gear. Parallel Body design with Slow Oscillation maximises casting performance, while Instant Drag lets you move quickly from freespool to fish-playing and lock the spool for a long-range cast.
The reel uses one S A-RB bearing, three shielded stainless-steel bearings and one roller bearing.
A 5.3:1 gear ratio retrieves 105cm of line per crank. The reel weighs 490g and holds 390m of 0.30mm line, 290m of 0.35mm line or 210m of 0.40mm line. An extra spool is supplied with the reel.
