What are the features like?

The Microcat HD takes a different approach to most modern bait boats. There's no GPS, no sonar, no autopilot, and no app. What you get instead is a boat that's laser-focused on being an excellent bait delivery tool without the tech distractions.

The twin ultrasonic sealed motors provide microprocessor-controlled variable speed in both forward and reverse, which gives you precise control over positioning.

You can creep the boat forward at low speed over a spot, which is useful when you want to avoid spooking fish in clear or shallow water.

Both hoppers can be opened independently or simultaneously. Open one for your rig and the other for a bed of bait, or dump both at once for a heavy baiting situation.

Performance & Handling

The Microcat HD is a proper workhorse on the water. The 4kg bait capacity is the joint highest in our bait boat lineup, which means you can load a serious bed of bait and deliver it in one trip.

For those heavy baiting situations where you want to get a kilo of boilies, a bag of pellet, and a couple of rigs out in one go, the HD handles it comfortably.

The twin independent hoppers add versatility. You can bait two features from a single run, or spread bait over a wider area by opening the hoppers at different times.

It's a practical advantage that single-hopper boats simply can't match.

The HD motors are quoted as being 10% faster than previous Microcats, and on the water the difference is noticeable. It gets to where it's going with purpose.

The boat tracks well in a straight line and the variable speed control means you can slow right down for the final approach.

Runtime is rated at 120 minutes plus at maximum speed on the standard 12Ah batteries, which is solid. The lithium HD-L upgrade extends that to around four hours, though it does add to the overall cost.

In practice, you'll get a good full session from a single charge on either version.

The hull profile handles choppy conditions better than earlier Microcats. AT raised the waterline on the HD, which means waves don't splash into the hoppers as easily.

Is it good value for money?

Let's not dance around it. The Microcat HD sits firmly in the premium end of the bait boat market, and the price has crept up steadily over the years to the point where it's now a serious investment for a boat without built-in GPS or sonar.

That's the obvious sticking point at this price.

The obvious trade-off is Angling Technics' own Ultracat S, which sits at similar money and includes GPS, sonar, and autopilot as standard. If technology matters to you, the Ultracat S is the obvious choice within the AT range.

But the Microcat HD serves a different type of angler.

If you already own a Toslon or Deeper unit and just want a bombproof bait delivery platform, the HD's 4kg capacity, twin hoppers, and sealed motors make a strong case.

You're paying for UK build quality, proven engineering, and a boat that's designed to last years with zero motor maintenance.

The lithium HD-L upgrade pushes the cost up further, and it's harder to justify against the competition unless you really need the extended runtime or the slightly lower carrying weight.

For most anglers, the standard version is the better buy.
