Westin W4 Flotation Suit Jetset Lime Review
A cold day afloat or on a rock mark puts two problems in front of you at once, the cold and the water right beside you. The Westin W4 Flotation Suit Jetset Lime is built for anglers who want warmth and flotation in one suit, with flexible lightweight foam that adds buoyancy, and it's certified to DS/EN ISO 12402-6.
I'd treat that foam as added buoyancy, not a replacement for a lifejacket, and the suit has locking loops to hold an inflatable vest in place. The rest of the spec is made for the sea, with PU-coated 210D nylon, taped seams, a high-vis yellow hood, SOLAS reflective tape and a certified whistle. For boat and rock anglers, I think it's a superb all-in-one choice.
How well is it built?
The outer is PU-coated 210D nylon with taped seams, and 210D nylon ripstop reinforcement covers the knees and back.
Ripstop has a grid of thicker threads woven through it, which stops a small nick from a hook or a rock turning into a long tear, and the knees and back are where a boat or rock angler wears a suit hardest.
The safety fittings are a big part of the build. It carries SOLAS reflective tape, the marine-grade reflective tape used on lifejackets and life rafts, plus a certified whistle and locking loops for an inflatable vest.
The high-vis yellow fold-in hood makes you easier to spot on the water too, whether that's from another boat or from the shore.
An integrated lightweight brace system keeps everything sitting where it should without adding bulk, which matters when you're layered up underneath. So, is it overbuilt for fishing? Not if you're out on a boat in winter, and I think it's a really thoughtfully specified suit.
Weather Protection
Taped seams and a PU coating on the 210D nylon keep water out of the fabric and stop it finding a way in through the stitching.
If pure rain protection on a bank is what matters most to you, the Westin W6 Winter Suit Ink Black has a 20,000mm hydrostatic head and is the one to compare it with.
What about the wind? On a boat it's often the bigger enemy, and the W4 tackles it with an extra-high soft fleece collar that comes up around your neck and chin.
The high-vis yellow fold-in hood has transparent 180° view panels, so you can pull it up in driving spray and still see to the sides, which matters when you're watching other boats or a rod tip. Mesh drains at the cuffs and ankles let water run back out.
For sea conditions, I think it's very well sealed, and that clear-panelled hood is a really clever touch.
Comfort & Fit Rating
Buoyancy comes from flexible lightweight foam built into the suit, and the whole suit is certified to DS/EN ISO 12402-6. Flexible foam matters for comfort, because it should move with you as you cast, reel and lean over the side to land a fish.
It's there to add buoyancy, and the locking loops let you lock an inflatable vest in place over the top, which is what I'd do on any boat.
The integrated lightweight brace system should hold the suit up comfortably, and the extra-high fleece collar feels soft against your neck.
There are nine pockets in all, including two fleece-insulated pockets for cold hands and an easy-access inner pocket for a phone or keys, so small bits stay to hand.
For a long, static bank session, the Westin W6 Winter Suit Ink Black, with 200gsm of SORONA Aura padding in the jacket body, is built more around warmth. Afloat, though, I think the W4 balances comfort and buoyancy very well, and that's what matters most out on the water.
Is it good value for money?
Price is the sticking point for most anglers, as it's one of the dearer suits you can buy.
You're getting a reinforced winter fishing suit and a certified flotation suit in one, though, along with SOLAS tape, a certified whistle and a high-vis hood, and that makes the cost much easier to justify for anyone who spends their winters afloat.
If you only fish from the bank, the Westin W6 Winter Suit Ink Black or the Fox Rage Winter Suit makes more sense, as you won't need the foam or the high-vis hood.
Out on a boat or a rock mark through the winter, the W4 covers both jobs at once, and that's where the extra spend makes sense.
Overall, I'd recommend the W4 to sea anglers on small boats and rock marks, and to predator anglers who fish big waters such as reservoirs and loughs from a boat in the colder months. Wear it with a lifejacket, and I think it's a superb, safety-minded winter suit.
