Product Information
The Trakker Levelite Oval MF-HDR Sleep System is an oval bedchair sleep system for anglers fishing from a shelter, shaped to leave more room than a traditional bed. Its Standard-Wide form is broad through the middle while keeping a standard width at the head and toe.
A high-density memory-foam mattress moulds to your body, while the firmer railed centre supports your lower back.
The bed lies completely flat and has a spirit level for setting up on uneven banks. Eight adjustable spring-loaded legs with rotating mud feet spread the load across the frame, and the storage pouch can sit anywhere around the bed for a power pack or alarm receiver.
A carry handle helps with transport, while the double hinge keeps the sleeping bag attached when the system is folded and the two securing straps compress it for storage.
Its peach-skin outer is water-resistant, with a removable reversible inner for three- or five-season use. Hollow-fibre filling traps air for heat retention, while filled baffles reduce warm air escaping through the full-length two-way 10mm crash zips.
A pillow retainer sits on the base layer and the shaped shark-foot end makes more room around your feet.
The system measures approximately 215 x 85cm, weighs about 17.5kg and has a maximum load of 130kg under normal use; it also fits the Levelite Oval Camo Pillow and Levelite Oval MF-HDR Cover.
Trakker Levelite Oval MF-HDR Sleep System Review
Most bedchairs are a plain rectangle, but Trakker have shaped the Levelite Oval MF-HDR Sleep System to be broad through the middle while keeping a standard width at the head and toe. Underneath you get high-density memory foam that's firmer through the centre, on a level, eight-legged frame, plus a matching camo sleeping bag on top, so you're buying a complete bed and bag in one go.
Is it worth the big outlay? For anglers who spend long sessions in a bivvy, I think it is, because the bed and the bag are both top quality and built to work together. It's heavy at around 17.5kg, though, so overall this is a system for the barrow rather than a long walk.
How well is it built?
I'd struggle to pick a hole in how this system is put together. The frame lies completely flat with a spirit level built in, and the eight adjustable, spring-loaded legs sit on rotating mud feet to spread the load.
The maximum load is 130kg under normal use, which covers most anglers, although it isn't as high as the 225kg rating on the Solar SP C-Tech MkII bed.
The sleeping bag looks just as well thought out. Its peach-skin outer is water-resistant, the full-length 10mm crash zips are two-way and heavy-duty on both sides, and filled baffles behind them cut down the warm air escaping through the zips.
Overall, it's about as well put together as sleep systems get, and I can't see anything that looks like a corner cut.
Comfort & Adjustability
For sheer comfort, the Levelite takes some beating. The high-density memory foam moulds to your body, while the railed mid-section is firmer to support your lower back, which is exactly the combination you want if your back plays up.
The oval shape adds room through the middle, and the shark-foot end of the bag gives your feet more space too.
The bag uses hollow-fibre filling that traps air to hold heat, and the removable, reversible inner lets you set it up for three- or five-season use. There's a pillow retainer on the base layer as well, and the legs adjust from 38 to 48cm for levelling on uneven banks.
Could you ask for much more comfort than that? I don't think so, and overall it's as comfortable a system as I'd point any carp angler towards.
Ease Of Setup & Portability
So, where does it lose marks? It's mostly the weight, because at about 17.5kg the Levelite is a kilo heavier than the Nash Indulgence HD40 Sleep System, and it's a lot to lug any distance without a barrow.
The good news is that the double hinge keeps the sleeping bag attached when you fold it, so the bed and bag go away as one, and two securing straps compress the package.
There's a carry handle for the last few yards to the bivvy, and the storage pouch can be moved anywhere around the bed through 360 degrees to hold your power pack or alarm receiver.
Overall, setting up is quick once you're in the swim, but the weight holds it back on portability, and that's why it scores lower than it does for build and comfort.
Is it good value for money?
There's no getting away from the fact that it's a big spend, and it costs more than both the Fox Flatliner X All Season System and the Nash Indulgence HD40 Sleep System.
To be fair, the price covers a sleeping bag as well as the bed, and a quality bag isn't cheap on its own, so I think it stacks up better than the headline figure suggests.
What you're really paying for is the oval shape, the high-density memory foam and a bag that works through the seasons, all in one package. The Nash is cheaper and a little lighter, so it's the obvious alternative if the budget is tight.
Overall, I'd recommend the Levelite to carp anglers who fish long sessions from a bivvy all year round, barrow their gear and put comfort ahead of everything else. If you walk your kit to the swim or fish short overnighters, a lighter bed and a separate bag make more sense.
