5 Things To Know

  1. Phase 3 Wound Membrane is a powder adhesive for covering cuts, wounds and ulcers on a carp's body.
  2. It goes on over Phase 1 Antisepticize and Phase 2 Propolis, and is then sealed with lake water.
  3. Contact with lake water makes the powder absorb moisture and form a thick film coat over the treated area.
  4. It comes in a 28g bottle, is for the body only and must be kept away from the eyes, nasal passage and gills.
  5. Trade-off to note: For the body only, so no use on mouth damage.

Carp Care UK Phase 3 Wound Membrane 28g Dropper bottle Review

Last in the Carp Care UK sequence comes Wound Membrane, and it's the most unusual of the three. It's a powder adhesive in a 28g bottle that goes over Phase 1 Antisepticize and Phase 2 Propolis, and once lake water is added it absorbs moisture and forms a thick film coat, a plaster that holds the treatment in place.

So, when do you need it? It's for covering cuts, wounds and ulcers on the body, not the mouth, and it's there to protect the area from further damage and support healing after the first two phases. For mouth damage and small hook holds, Phases 1 and 2 do the job on their own, so this is the bottle for the bigger body wounds.

Contents & Coverage

Its job is clear. Wound Membrane covers cuts, wounds and ulcers on a carp's body once they've been cleaned with Antisepticize and treated with Propolis. It's for the body only, so it isn't for hook holds inside the mouth, which the first two phases handle.

It scores 7.5 because it does one specific job, and it relies on the other two phases going on underneath it. It isn't a treatment you'd use by itself, so it only earns its place as part of the full Carp Care UK routine.

To be fair, that one job is a useful one. Compared with a spray or a swab on its own, a plaster-like film over the treated area adds a layer of protection on larger wounds, and I think that makes it the most interesting bottle of the three.

For what it's meant to do, the coverage is fair.

Ease of Use

This is the fiddliest of the three phases, which is why it sits on 8.0. You spray Phase 1, apply Phase 2 and leave it unsealed, then dust the powder over the top and carefully add lake water to set it.

The powder deepens in colour as it absorbs the water, so you can tell when the plaster has formed. That's a handy sign when you're working quickly on the mat, and it takes some of the guesswork out of the final step.

Does it slow you down? A little, as it's the third step rather than the only one. Keep it clear of the eyes, nasal passage and gills, keep the fish wet while you work, and lay all three bottles out before the fish leaves the water so the return is quick.

For me, that bit of preparation makes all the difference.

Portability

For such a useful step, it comes in a very small bottle. The 28g bottle sits alongside the two 30ml bottles of Phase 1 and Phase 2 in a small pouch or rucksack pocket, so the whole system is easy to carry from swim to swim.

Why carry it if it's only for bigger wounds? Because you can't predict when you'll land a fish that needs more than a quick clean, and at this size there's no reason to leave it at home.

It adds almost nothing to a bag, even on a short session where you're travelling light, and it won't take space from anything else you need.

I think it should live in the bag full-time alongside the other two phases. Pretty much any carp angler can find room for a bottle this small, whether it's in a rucksack, a bait bag or a carryall.

Is it good value for money?

It's one of the cheaper treatments in carp care, and at that level it's an easy addition if you already use Antisepticize and Propolis. Each phase is sold separately, so you only need to replace this bottle when the powder runs low, without buying a whole new set to do it.

The catch is that it isn't something you'd use alone, so the real cost is all three phases together.

If you only want one bottle, a single all-in-one treatment such as the Korda Propolis Carp Care All In One makes more sense, and the NGT Fish Aid Antibacterial spray is a simple budget option for everyday hook holds, though neither gives you a plaster-like cover on a big body wound.

Overall, I'd recommend Wound Membrane to carp anglers already using Antisepticize and Propolis who want a proper covering for larger body wounds, cuts and ulcers before the fish goes back.

Pros

  • Forms a plaster-like film over the treated body wound
  • Holds the Phase 1 and Phase 2 treatments in place
  • Colour change shows when the powder has absorbed water
  • Small 28g bottle sits easily with the other two phases
  • One of the cheaper bottles you can buy for carp care

Cons

  • For the body only, so no use on mouth damage
  • Fiddliest phase, and it only works after Phases 1 and 2
