5 Things To Know

  1. Phase 1 Antisepticize is a non-toxic disinfectant spray for mouth damage, small body lesions, cuts, open wounds and ulcers on fish.
  2. It's the first step of the Carp Care UK system, applied before Phase 2 Propolis and Phase 3 Wound Membrane.
  3. Check the affected area and wipe it dry before spraying, keeping the treatment away from the eyes, nasal passages and gills.
  4. The reason it sits on 7.5 is that it's one part of a three-step system.
  5. To be fair, that's how a phased system is meant to work.

Carp Care UK Phase 1 Antisepticize 30ml Spray bottle Review

The Carp Care UK system works in three phases, and Antisepticize is Phase 1, the clean that comes before anything else. It's a non-toxic disinfectant spray in a 30ml bottle for mouth damage, small body lesions, cuts, open wounds and ulcers, and it goes on first, ahead of Phase 2 Propolis and, on larger body wounds, Phase 3 Wound Membrane.

So, do you always need all three? No. For mouth damage, hook holds and small lesions, Phases 1 and 2 are enough, because Wound Membrane is for the body only.

Either way, Antisepticize is the step that prepares the area, and on its own it's a cheap, simple disinfectant spray that earns a place in any carp angler's bag.

Contents & Coverage

For one small spray, Antisepticize covers a wide spread of damage. It's for mouth and body, so mouth damage from a hook, a deep hook hold, a cut on the flank and small lesions on the tail or fins can all be treated from the same bottle, along with open wounds and ulcers.

The reason it sits on 7.5 is that it's one part of a three-step system. Its job is to clean and disinfect, while the treating and covering that follow are down to Phase 2 Propolis and Phase 3 Wound Membrane. Bought on its own, it's the first step rather than the whole routine.

To be fair, that's how a phased system is meant to work. If you'd rather have one bottle for everything, the Korda Propolis Carp Care All In One is built that way, but as a first step I think Antisepticize covers pretty much every kind of damage you'll see on the bank.

Ease of Use

So, how do you use it? Check the damaged area and wipe it dry, then spray. For mouth damage one spray is enough, with the nozzle kept pointed away from the throat.

For a deep hook-hold wound, spray the tip of your finger first and gently massage the treatment in, and a few sprays will cover small lesions on the flanks, tail or fins.

It has to be kept away from the eyes, nasal passages and gills, so a spray near the head needs a little more care than a swab. That, plus the need to follow it with Phase 2, is why it scores 8.5 rather than higher.

Do all of this on a wet unhooking mat, keep the rest of the fish wet while you work, and move straight on to Phase 2 so the fish goes back quickly. Once the order's in your head, it's a fast routine.

Portability

A 30ml spray bottle is tiny, and Antisepticize is light enough to live in a rucksack pocket or bait bag on every trip. There's a clear cap over the spray head, which keeps the nozzle covered when it's rattling around with the rest of your gear.

Because it's part of a system, the real question is how easily all three phases travel together. With two 30ml bottles and one small bottle of powder, the complete Carp Care UK routine fits in a small pouch or a corner of a rucksack, so carrying the lot isn't a hardship.

Each bottle has its phase number printed large on the label as well, so there's no confusion about which comes first when a fish is waiting.

Will it fit in a jacket pocket? Easily. For me, it's about as portable as carp care gets, and it's small enough that there's no excuse for leaving it at home.

Is it good value for money?

It's one of the cheaper single treatments in carp care, and for a 30ml disinfectant spray I think the price is fair. Each phase is sold on its own as well, so you only need to replace the bottle that runs out first rather than buying a whole new kit.

The catch is that the complete routine takes three bottles, so the total spend is higher than for a single all-in-one bottle.

If budget's the main concern and you only want a spray, the NGT Fish Aid Antibacterial is one of the cheapest sprays around and simpler still, though it isn't part of a phased system and has no propolis or sealing step to follow it.

Overall, I'd recommend Antisepticize to carp anglers building the Carp Care UK routine, and to anyone who wants a cheap disinfectant spray for mouth damage, hook holds and small wounds.
