Product Information

The Shimano Purist PX1 Deadbait is a range of three rods aimed at pike and zander anglers fishing static deadbaits. All three models share the same core specification: full carbon two-piece blank, Shimano Hardlite guides, custom DPS reel seat, full cork handle with aluminium butt cap, and a fitted line clip.

Three models are available. The 8ft 10in is rated up to 15g and Shimano describe it as their zander specialist. The 10ft 2.75lb is rated to 250g and listed for close-range, boat and smaller water pike fishing. The 12ft 3lb is the distance and open-water pike model.

The short white tip section fitted to each rod is a feature Shimano highlight as an aid to bite detection. The line clip allows fishing with the bail open or on a freespool setting, which is standard practice in UK pike deadbait fishing.

Shinamo do not publish a modulus rating for the PX1 Deadbait blank. The Purist PX1 range also includes barbel and river specialist models , the Deadbait variants are a separate product within the same family.

The range sits in the mid-tier of the UK deadbait rod market.

Features and Specifications

Feature What this means
Blank: Full Carbon, 2-Piece A full carbon blank across all three models, designed to generate the power needed to handle pike and zander while absorbing hard runs and headshakes. The two-piece construction means each rod can be transported at half its fishing length.
Guides: Shimano Hardlite with White Tip Section Shimano Hardlite guides are fitted across all three models. The tip section is finished in white on every rod, making it easier to watch for movement at distance or in low light when fishing a static deadbait.
Reel Seat: Custom DPS A screw-up DPS reel seat on all models. The 10ft is sized to balance with smaller Baitrunner-style reels, while the 12ft is matched to larger ones, so the seat fits the intended reel for each rod without adapters.
Handle: Full Cork with Aluminium Butt Cap Full cork handles across all three models give a classic, understated look that is traditional on specialist predator rods. The aluminium butt cap finishes the handle and protects the blank end on the bank.
Line Clip A line clip is fitted to all three models, letting you hold the line while fishing with the bail arm open or the spool in freespool mode. This means a taking fish can pick up and move off without feeling any resistance before you strike.
Available Models: 8ft 10in (up to 15g) / 10ft 2.75lb (250g) / 12ft 3lb Three models covering two disciplines. The 8ft 10in is a zander specialist rated to just 15g, suited to smaller baits on lighter setups. The 10ft 2.75lb is for close-range work, boat fishing and smaller waters. The 12ft 3lb is the distance pike model, offering more power and casting length for open-water fishing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What models does the Shimano Purist PX1 Deadbait Rod come in?

Three models: 8ft 10in rated up to 15g (zander), 10ft 2.75lb rated to 250g (pike), and 12ft 3lb (pike). All are two-piece. The 8ft 10in is a much lighter rod than the two pike models and is not suited to standard pike deadbait setups.

What reel suits the Shimano Purist PX1 Deadbait 12ft?

Shimano state the 12ft model matches with larger Baitrunner-style reels. A 5000-6000 size fixed-spool reel with a freespool or baitrunner function is the standard pairing for 12ft pike deadbait rods in this class.

Does the Shimano Purist PX1 Deadbait have a line clip?

Yes. A line clip is fitted to all three models. Shimano state it enables fishing with the bail arm open or in freespool mode, which is standard practice for UK pike deadbait fishing so a taking fish can move off without feeling resistance.

What guides are on the Shimano Purist PX1 Deadbait Rod?

Shimano Hardlite guides. These are Shimano own-brand guides. Shimano do not specify the ring insert material for the Hardlite system on this rod.

Is the Shimano Purist PX1 8ft 10in suitable for pike fishing?

It is designed for zander. Shimano rate it at up to 15g, which is a very light casting weight suited to small zander deadbaits rather than the larger baits and heavier leads used in pike fishing. The 10ft 2.75lb and 12ft 3lb are the pike models in the range.
