Product Information

Made for bankside cooking, Sonik's Sizzla 2Burna is a portable camping stove. It folds out for setup and connects to a gas canister.

Independent dial controls work with push-button ignition. Anti-slip rubber feet keep the stove stable, and the supplied cooking griddle warms food or toasts it.

It measures 50 x 21.6 x 10cm when assembled and folds to 21.6 x 12.5 x 28cm for transport. A carry handle makes it easy to move.

Sonik Sizzla 2Burna Review

Sonik's Sizzla 2Burna is a portable twin-burner stove made for bankside cooking, and that second burner is the reason to buy it. Its two hob units fold out side by side and connect to a gas canister, so the kettle doesn't have to wait while the frying pan is on, and cooking for two gets a lot easier.

So, what do you get? Each burner has its own dial control, push-button ignition lights them, anti-slip rubber feet keep it steady and a cooking griddle comes with it for warming or toasting food. It folds to 21.6 x 12.5 x 28cm with a carry handle, which makes it a much smaller pack than the Fox Cookware Cookstation.

Build quality 8.7/10
Heat & Performance 8.8/10
Ease of Use 8.5/10
Value for money 8.3/10

How well is it built?

The 2Burna has a neat folding design, with two hob units that hinge together and close into a compact block.

Each side has a wire pan support over its burner, and the gas runs in through a braided hose, which is a good sign on a stove that'll be connected and disconnected many times a season.

Closed up, a metal latch holds the two halves together, so it shouldn't flap open in the barrow, and the carry handle makes it easy to move. The anti-slip rubber feet do two jobs, keeping the stove planted in use and stopping it sliding about on a bivvy table.

For me, it's a well-made, practical bit of kit, and the 8.7 reflects a sturdy build with sensible details. The RidgeMonkey Grilla Cookstation Single Hob has the edge for materials with its stainless steel body, but the 2Burna packs two burners into a box with its own handle.

Heat & Performance

The 8.8 comes down to having two burners with independent dial controls. You can keep the kettle going on one side while frying on the other, or run one flame low under a pan of beans while the other works hard.

When you're cooking two things at once, that makes it a more capable cooker than a single hob like the RidgeMonkey Grilla Cookstation Single Hob.

The supplied griddle adds to it, as it sits over one burner for warming food or toasting it, so breakfast doesn't need a separate pan. Pair it with a frying pan on the other side and you've pretty much got a small camping kitchen in one box.

The Fox Cookware Cookstation puts a big 8kW figure on its single burner, whereas the 2Burna's strength is two flames you can set separately. I think that flexibility justifies a high score for heat and performance on a bankside stove.

Ease of Use

Setting up should take seconds. Fold it out, connect a gas canister and press the push-button ignition, with no lighter or matches needed. The dials sit on the front of each hob, so adjusting the flame is easy even with a pan on top.

Assembled, it measures 50 x 21.6 x 10cm, so you'll want a flat surface around half a metre long, such as a bivvy table. Never cook or run a gas stove inside a closed bivvy or tent, because of carbon monoxide and fire.

Cook in the open or under a well-ventilated porch, on a stable, flat base.

Why not higher? Packing away means letting both burners cool and closing up two hinged halves, which is a little more involved than dropping a one-piece burner like the Trakker Armolife CG4 into its bag.

Even so, I think 8.5 is fair for a twin-burner stove that's this simple to run.

Is it good value for money?

Is the second burner worth paying for? It's an upper mid-priced stove and dearer than the NGT XT Twin Stove System, which is another folding twin-burner with a griddle.

What you're paying for is the independent controls, push-button ignition, carry handle and supplied griddle in a package that folds small. The latch, braided hose and anti-slip feet all suggest a stove that's built to last a few seasons.

To be fair, if you only boil water for brews, two burners are more than you need, and a compact stove like the Sonik Sizzla Superstove makes more sense. If you cook for one, the RidgeMonkey Grilla Cookstation Single Hob is the tidier single-pan option.

Overall, I'd recommend the 2Burna to anglers who cook proper breakfasts and evening meals on longer sessions, especially if there are two of you sharing a swim. For a portable twin-burner hob that folds into a handy block, I think it's a strong buy.
