NGT XT Twin Stove System with Griddle and Case Review
Want to boil the kettle and fry breakfast at the same time without spending a fortune? The NGT XT Twin Stove System is built for exactly that, with two independent burners, a griddle plate and a carry case in one kit for bank-side cooking, camping and longer sessions.
Each burner puts out 2.3kW, giving 4.6kW in total, and the stove runs on NGT butane or propane 450g canisters. It folds into a compact unit for the walk to the swim and opens into a stable cooking platform.
For me, that's a lot of stove for the price, and it's a sensible step up from a single burner if you like to cook proper meals rather than live on brews.
How well is it built?
The XT Twin uses a hinged design, with two hob units that fold together into one compact block and open out side by side. Each burner has a wire pan support over it, a fold-out handle makes it easy to carry, and a latch holds the two halves shut when it's packed.
The gas comes in from the canister through a braided hose.
It's a solid, practical build, and the zipped carry case keeps it clean and protected between sessions. The griddle plate sits over one burner, which is a handy extra on a stove at this price.
For me, the 8.3 is fair. The RidgeMonkey Grilla Cookstation Single Hob has the edge with its easy-clean stainless steel body, rubber-capped pan support and drip pan, and that's the kind of finish you pay more for.
The NGT is a well-made twin-burner kit, though, and it should stand up to regular sessions.
Heat & Performance
Heat comes from two 2.3kW burners, and the way it's split is the whole point. Rather than one big flame, you get two pans on the go at once, which is exactly what you want when the kettle's on one side and the sausages are on the other.
The griddle plate is made for bacon, burgers, sausages and quick meals, so a proper fry-up is well within reach, while the other burner looks after the kettle or a pan of beans. Because the burners are independent, one can sit on a low flame while the other runs hot.
It runs on NGT butane or propane canisters, and that choice matters. Pure butane struggles in cold weather, so a propane or mixed canister is the smarter choice on winter nights.
I think 8.6 is fair, as 2.3kW per burner is plenty for brews and fry-ups, and the second burner keeps both jobs going at once.
Ease of Use
Setting up is a case of opening the two halves, connecting the canister and setting each burner with its own dial. The dials sit on the front of each hob with an OFF marking, so it's easy to check both are off before you pack up.
The stove then goes back into its carry case for the trip home, and nothing gets lost in the bottom of the barrow.
Never cook or run a gas stove inside a closed bivvy or tent, because of carbon monoxide and fire. Cook in the open or under a well-ventilated porch, on a stable, flat base.
What holds it back? Opened out, it's a lot longer than a single burner, so you'll need a flat area or a bivvy table big enough for both hobs, and that's less convenient than a compact stove like the NGT Profiler.
It's still simple to run, though, and I think 8.4 is about right for a twin-burner kit at this price.
Is it good value for money?
Is it good value for a twin-burner kit? I think so. It's one of the cheaper twin-burner kits for the bank and cheaper than the Sonik Sizzla 2Burna, yet the griddle and the case are both part of the deal.
That's everything you need to cook a proper breakfast and keep the brews going, apart from the gas.
To be fair, the build is a step behind the RidgeMonkey Grilla Cookstation Single Hob, which has a stainless steel body and drip pan, and if you only ever boil water, a compact stove like the NGT Profiler makes more sense.
Overall, I'd recommend the XT Twin to anglers who cook proper meals on longer sessions, share a swim with a mate or take the stove camping. The two 2.3kW burners and the griddle cover pretty much everything most anglers cook on the bank.
For a twin-burner kit that covers brews and fry-ups at a sensible price, it's a very sound buy.
