How well is the Preston Superium Poles built?

Preston are known for producing solid mid-tier poles with a clean finish, and the Superium Power Margin is no exception.

It’s built using a high-modulus carbon fibre that keeps things light enough to manoeuvre while still giving you the wall strength needed for close-in battles. The section fit and finish are great for this price point.

There’s a nice stiffness to the blank when striking or shipping in, and recovery is clean with little bounce. In terms of weight and balance, the Superium sits well across the arms on a roost and feels nimble even when fishing short.

At 8.5m, the pole holds firm and doesn't drag or dip. For a pole that’s under £400, the balance is one of the standout traits.

How does it perform and handle?

This is a pole that feels at home on commercial venues. You can fish confidently both in the margins or at depth with the knowledge that you have enough in your artillery to land whatever is hooked.

It’s rated up to a solid elastic of 20, meaning it can handle even the angriest of carp.

The taper gives it some finesse, too, so you won’t feel overgunned for smaller fish. Shipping in and out is smooth, aided by the pole's clean matte finish.

It’s equally capable when fishing paste, corn, or heavy rigs tight in, all the things you'd want a decent margin pole to do.

What are the kit and spares options like?

This model comes ready with a 1-piece Power Top 2 Kit pre-bushed and pre-fitted with a Side Puller Slot, which is a nice surprise at this price. The kit is responsive but still has the wall strength needed to power up confidently.

Preston’s commercial top kits are known for their smart tapering and easy elastic setup, and this is no different. Additional Superium kits are widely available and all cut to a uniform length, which is great if you decide to upgrade to a longer Superium model down the line.

Is it good value for money?

It’s not always easy to find a margin pole that’s both affordable and reliable, but Preston has absolutely nailed it here. You’re getting a well-balanced, well-kitted margin pole for well under £400, with room to expand as your fishing needs grow.

The 13m and 16m models are equally competitively priced. The fact that the margin pole shares its DNA with the rest of the Superium range means any investment in kits or spares carries over that adds long-term value.
