How well is it built?

Preston's Supera X range has been steadily growing on UK match banks over the past few years, and the Superlight Float is the finesse-oriented variant of the family.

This is a 12ft 2-piece float rod built for commercial silverfish work and winter carp or F1 float sessions where a softer action and finer hooklengths matter more than raw power.

The blank uses Preston's X Wrap technology. X Wrap is a cross-pattern carbon weave layered between the conventional 0-degree and 90-degree wraps, designed to reduce blank twist under load.

In practice, it produces a visibly slimmer blank for a given casting weight without sacrificing strength.

How well does it cast and feel?

On the cast, the Supera X Superlight is built for a very specific job.

Commercial silverfish fishing with light wagglers, winter F1 and carp work where shy bites demand finesse, and fine-line stick float work where the difference between a bite and a missed cast is tip-recovery speed.

The slow-taper tip is the key feature. It loads properly on 2-6g wagglers that stiffer commercial rods simply push through without proper accuracy.

On the release, the X Wrap blank stops the tip recovering cleanly rather than twitching — important for repeat casting to a feed spot.

The Minima guides contribute real line-flow smoothness, especially with lighter mainlines.

How does it perform when playing fish?

For the intended window of silverfish, F1s and smaller commercial carp on finesse tackle, the playing action is genuinely one of the best available at this price tier.
