Nash Indulgence Ultralite Chair Review

The Nash Indulgence Ultralite Chair takes the Indulgence comfort style and puts it into a compact chair you can carry between swims. It's built on an ultralight frame with a hollow-fill mattress, a fleece cover and a memory foam head section, and at 3.6kg it's far easier to move than a big session recliner.

The legs are spring-loaded and adjustable with fold-flat mud feet and a braced front leg, and you can fold the rear legs to use it as a bed buddy beside your bedchair. There's even a shoulder strap tucked into a zipped pocket behind the headrest, so it's clearly designed to be carried. For mobile carp anglers who still want proper padding and head support, I think it's one of the comfiest light chairs you can buy.

How well is it built?

The Ultralite is built around a light frame with a braced front leg design, and you can see the curved brace running under the seat between the legs, which looks like a sensible bit of reinforcement on a light frame.

The frame and brackets have a black finish and look neat and well put together.

The padding sits in a camo-edged cover with a fleece centre, and the stitching and webbing on the back look tidy. Nash have also added a zipped pocket behind the headrest that holds a shoulder strap, which is a thoughtful touch on a chair that's meant to be carried.

At 3.6kg it isn't the very lightest chair of its type, as the Fox Duralite Recliner comes in lighter, but the extra weight goes into padding rather than frame, and the build looks every bit as solid as I'd expect from Nash.

Comfort & Adjustability

This is where the Ultralite earns its place, because the hollow-fill mattress gives you proper padding through the seat and back, the fleece cover is warmer to sit on than plain nylon, and the memory foam head section gives you somewhere comfortable to rest your head, which is a lot of comfort for a chair this light.

The seat is 52cm wide with a 50cm back height, and the legs adjust from 31 to 39cm, so it sits fairly low to the ground. That suits plenty of carp anglers who like to sit close to their rods, and the spring-loaded legs make it quick to set at the height you want.

The other clever bit is the bed buddy option. Fold the rear legs and it sits beside your bedchair, giving you a padded seat when you're sitting up in the bivvy, so one chair does two jobs on longer sessions, which is handy when you're trying to keep the barrow light.

Stability & Footing

The fold-flat mud feet sit on ball joints, so they angle themselves to the ground, and their wide base spreads the load on soft or muddy banks.

Each leg has a lever on its spring-loaded adjuster, which should make levelling the chair on an uneven swim a quick job rather than a fiddle.

The braced front leg design adds stiffness at the front, and I think that's the right place for it, because that's where a chair tends to rock when you lean forward to your rods. The fold-flat feet also help the chair pack down neatly when you're moving swims.

With an 8cm range of leg adjustment it'll level most swims, though on a really steep bank you might want more leg than it gives you. For a light, mobile chair I'd put its footing on a par with the Fox Duralite Recliner, and that's a good place to be.

Is it good value for money?

The Ultralite costs a little more than the Fox Duralite Recliner, and it's a different kind of light chair. The Fox is the lighter of the two, while the Nash puts more into comfort with its hollow-fill mattress, memory foam head section, bed buddy option and shoulder strap.

If comfort matters more to you than saving a few hundred grams, I think the Nash is worth the small difference.

Next to Nash's own Indulgence Big Daddy Auto Recline it's a fair bit cheaper, and the Big Daddy is the one to go for if you sit in one swim and want a bigger recliner. The Korum Supa-Lite Stretch costs more again, and for me the Ultralite gives you more comfort for less.

It suits mobile carp anglers who carry their gear between swims, fish overnighters and short sessions, and still want a padded chair with head support that doubles as a bed buddy.

Pros

  • Hollow-fill mattress and fleece cover give proper padding at 3.6kg
  • Memory foam head section adds real head support for its size
  • Rear legs fold so it doubles as a bed buddy
  • Spring-loaded legs with fold-flat, ball-jointed mud feet
  • Shoulder strap stored in a zipped pocket behind the headrest

Cons

  • No armrests, which I'd miss on longer day sessions
  • Fleece cover is cosy but will hold onto mud and damp
