How well is it built?

The Aventus range showcases Guru's commitment to quality and performance. Made in Daiwa's UK facility, these rods benefit from top-tier manufacturing processes and materials. The blank is constructed using HVF (High Volume Fibre) carbon and Zero 90 Carbon Technology.

This combination results in a high-density structure that's both strong and lightweight, with the Zero 90 technology ensuring excellent longitudinal strength, recovery, and crispness.

The handle design is a standout feature. It includes a bespoke Guru rear grip, an A-grade Armlock cork handle, and a cork/EVA downlocking fore grip.

This configuration offers optimal comfort and control, with the Armlock design borrowed from Daiwa preventing the rod from slipping during intense fights with larger fish.

In layman's terms, this is a shaved piece of the handle designed to fit snugly on your forearm. The Fuji DPS reel seat is another premium touch, providing a secure and ergonomic fit for a wide range of reels.

One thing I adore on this rod is the Fuji BCKWAG guides with Alconite rings and frosted dark grey frames. These not only look amazing but also ensure smooth line flow and durability.

The attention to detail in the guide spacing is particularly impressive, optimising both casting performance and fish-playing action.

The Aventus is available in lengths from 10ft to 13ft, which means there is one to suit every angler's needs.

Casting Performance

The Aventus rods perform really well when it comes to casting and score a very credible 9 out of 10 in this area. The combination of HVF and Zero 90 Carbon Technology creates a blank that loads beautifully and recovers quickly, translating into impressive distance and accuracy.

The longer handle design, even on the shorter 10ft and 11ft models, provides extra leverage for casting. This feature, combined with the bespoke Guru hand grip, allows anglers to really lean into the cast with confidence, gaining those crucial extra metres when needed.

I really like the design of this and is a great example of how Guru has thought practically about the angler using the rod on the bank.

For me, this makes it a great rod for fishing the method feeder tactic and one of the main reasons it features in our top feeder rod article. The Fuji BCKWAG guides play a significant role in casting performance.

Their upward-facing design reduces line slap and the risk of tangles during powerful casts.

This not only improves distance but also enhances accuracy, allowing for precise placement whether you're targeting a small island on a commercial water or a specific spot on a short feeder line.

With casting weights ranging from 60g on the 10ft model up to 150g on the 13ft version, these rods can handle a wide variety of feeders and tactics.

How does it perform when playing fish?

The Aventus rods perform well not just in casting but also in fish playing. The progressive action of these rods is a key feature, offering a soft tip for spotting shy bites and playing smaller fish, combined with plenty of power in reserve for controlling larger specimens.

The V-Joint technology ensures a smooth curvature throughout the blank, eliminating flat spots and providing consistent pressure during the fight. This translates to secure hook holds and confident fish control, even when tackling carp up to 20 pounds.

The interchangeable quivertips add to the rod's versatility. Each rod comes with three tips (1oz, 1.5oz, and 2oz for the 10ft and 11ft models, with heavier options for longer rods), allowing anglers to adapt to different situations.

The softest tip is perfect for spotting shy bites and reducing hook pulls when fishing for smaller species, while the stiffer options cater for heavier feeders or more challenging conditions.

Speaking to a few anglers, they were put off by the fibreglass quiver tips on the 10 and 11-foot models.

Personally, I didn't find an issue with this but maybe just something to consider.

Is it good value for money?

Probably my biggest gripe with the Guru Aventus feeder rod is its price point. It's pitched at the higher end of the spectrum in terms of price.

Although it does perform exceptionally well, for an extra few quid you can get hold of the amazing Tournament SLR or Daiwa Airity models that, in my opinion, perform slightly better than the Aventus.

It is still a quality rod however and the combination of top-notch components, versatile performance, and thoughtful design features justifies the investment for those looking for a high-end, premium feeder fishing rod.
