Product Information

The Fox Horizon X6 Ti 8-10ft Rod is a retractable carp rod for fishing small to medium waters, mobile sessions, and boat or bait boat angling. Its 8-10ft format packs down to 1270mm, keeping the rod compact for transport.

Fox builds the blank from ultra-high-modulus carbon with multidirectional nanofibre and interlaminar resin, finished with a 2K carbon wrap.

This construction gives the thin blank strength, lightness and recovery, while its cushioning playing action is intended to reduce hook pulls. Japanese shrink-wrap grips and an EVA foregrip finish the handle.

American Tackle Ti-Forged Pentalite titanium anti-frap guides run from 40mm to 12mm, with ceramic centres in lightweight titanium frames, and the reel seat is an 18mm matt-black carbon model. The 3.25lb rod weighs 240g and the 3.75lb rod weighs 273g.

Fox Horizon X6 Ti 8-10ft Rod Review

If you are looking for a rod that combines premium performance with total pack-down portability, the Fox Horizon X6 Ti 8-10ft should be top of your list. It is the retractable rod in Fox's flagship Horizon X6 Ti range and it fishes at either 8ft or 10ft from a blank that packs down to 1270mm.

It suits stalking anglers who fish tight, overgrown swims, mobile anglers travelling light or on foot, canal and urban carpers who need compact kit, and anyone fishing abroad who needs a luggage-friendly rod. In short, it is for anyone who wants top-tier build quality in a short-pack rod.

Features

Constructed from an ultra high modulus carbon blank with multidirectional nanofibre and interlaminar resin under a 2K carbon wrap, the Horizon X6 Ti offers quick recovery and a superior playing action.

This construction keeps the rod remarkably light, 240g in the 3.25lb and 273g in the 3.75lb, without sacrificing strength or responsiveness.

Fox has fitted American Tackle Ti-forged Pentalite titanium anti-frap guides, running from 40mm down to a 12mm tip.

They are featherlight and offer exceptional line flow, and the wider bore and anti-frap tip make it ideal for heavier lines and close-quarters casting, something stalking rods often struggle with.

The retractable butt section allows for compact storage and transport, making it a genuinely convenient rod for the mobile angler.

Appearance

The 18mm American Tackle carbon reel seat is seriously impressive for a rod of this type. It is matt black, feels rock solid when clamping down on the reel foot, and gives the Horizon X6 Ti a premium feel the moment you pick it up.

Unlike many retractables, the reel does not wobble or loosen.

Fox has gone with Japanese shrink wrap grips and an EVA comfort foregrip, which offer both comfort and durability, even with wet hands or during fast underarm flicks.

The handle is slim, balanced and pairs really well with smaller 5000-sized reels, and the cosmetics are understated in the usual Horizon way.

How well does it cast and feel?

Despite its compact nature, this is a blank built to cast. The action is progressive but with a firm recovery, giving you loads of confidence under load, and the rod does not feel like it folds or lags behind your cast, a rare thing for this rod type.

At 8ft it is made for underarm flicks into tight, snaggy margins. Extend it to 10ft and it will comfortably reach the spots on a small to medium sized water that a short rod normally leaves alone.

How does it perform when playing fish?

Fox designed the Horizon X6 Ti to retain a high quality playing action, with a subtle cushioning through the tip to ensure hook pulls are reduced.

You get that soft compression that cushions lunges at close quarters, but the lower section has real power, especially in the 3.75lb model.

For turning a fish away from a marginal snag, which is exactly the kind of fishing a retractable rod gets used for, it holds up under pressure without feeling clunky or stiff.

Is it good value for money?

The Horizon X6 Ti sits at the premium end of the retractable market, but in my view it justifies the price. The finish, fittings and feel are all next-level, and the blank offers performance that makes many 12ft rods blush.

If you want a stalking rod that does not feel like a compromise, this is the one.
