Fox Exocet Pro Low Vis Green
Product Information
The Fox Exocet Pro Low Vis Green is an updated monofilament mainline for carp fishing, finished in low-visibility green. The line is made for distance casting and has a soft, supple feel with sinking properties.
Latest monofilament technology gives it high abrasion resistance and good knot strength. Fox supplies every diameter on a 1,000m spool, providing the same spool length across the range.
The range starts at 0.261mm, rated at 10lb or 4.55kg, and continues through 0.309mm at 13lb or 5.90kg, 0.331mm at 16lb or 7.27kg, and 0.350mm at 18lb or 8.18kg. Heavier diameters are 0.370mm at 20lb or 9.09kg and 0.400mm at 23lb or 10.45kg.
Fox Exocet Pro Low Vis Green Review
Distance is the whole point of the Fox Exocet Pro Low Vis Green, a sinking mono with a super soft, supple feel and a low-vis green finish. Every breaking strain comes on a 1,000m spool, from 10lb at 0.261mm up to 23lb at 0.400mm.
What stands out for me is how fine it runs for the strain. The 18lb is just 0.350mm, the same diameter as the Gardner GT-HD in 15lb or the Korda Basix in 12lb, and it still has high abrasion resistance and good knot strength.
It isn't a specialist snag line, but I think it's one of the easiest monos to recommend if you want to fish at range without fuss.
Strength & Abrasion
For a line this fine, the strength figures are impressive. The 0.309mm is 13lb and the 0.370mm is 20lb, and to put that in context, the Shimano Technium needs 0.38mm for its 15lb.
A thinner line for the strain usually casts further, but it also leaves a little less material to wear through before it weakens.
That said, abrasion resistance is high and knot strength is good, and six breaking strains give you plenty of choice. I'd step up to the 18lb or 20lb for gravel bars and rough margins, since you're still only at 0.350mm or 0.370mm.
To be fair, if you're fishing really heavy weed or sharp snags, I'd still lean towards a dedicated tough mono like the Korda Subline. Overall, though, it's strong for its diameter, and I think it's tough enough for most open-water carp fishing.
Casting & Handling
So, what does super soft and supple actually mean once it's on the reel?
On paper, a soft mono beds down neatly and peels off the spool with less memory than a stiffer line, so you should get fewer loops and tangles, and that's exactly what you want when you're putting a lead out a long way.
Add the low diameter for the strain and the spec reads like a proper distance line. Less diameter means less friction through the rod rings and less drag in a crosswind, which is why I'd expect the Exocet Pro to cast very well for its breaking strain.
For long-range fishing, that combination is hard to argue with.
Overall, this is where the Exocet Pro earns its top score. If you mainly fish open water at range, I think the handling is pretty much the reason to buy it.
Presentation
The low-vis green finish and sinking build give it good presentation, if not quite at the level of the specialists. From the photos, the colour is a deep olive shade that should blend in over weed and silt rather than standing out against the bottom.
It's a sinking line rather than a dedicated fast-sinking one, though, so it won't get down like the dense Korda Subline or settle flush to the bottom like the Gardner GT-HD.
If you want the line pinned flat to the lake bed in front of wary fish, one of those or a fluorocarbon goes further.
For me, the suppleness helps a bit too, because a soft line is more likely to follow the contours of the lake bed than spring up off it. On balance, it presents well for most carp fishing, and a back lead will sort out the odd swim where you want it tighter to the bottom.
Is it good value for money?
Is it worth paying more than a bulk mono? I think so, if distance matters to you. It costs a bit more than the Trakker Mono Reel Line or a Daiwa Sensor bulk spool, but whichever strain you pick, you get a full 1,000m, which goes a long way across a set of rods.
Against the Gardner GT-HD it's similar money, so the choice comes down to what you value most, with Fox's distance-first handling on one side and Gardner's faster-sinking, lower-stretch build on the other. To be fair, both are good buys.
Overall, I'd recommend the Exocet Pro to carp anglers who fish big open waters and need to reach distant spots, and to anyone who likes a soft, easy-handling mono. If you fish tight to snags or in heavy weed, a tougher, thicker line is the safer choice.
Pros
- Fine diameters for the strain, from 0.261mm at 10lb
- Super soft, supple feel should mean low memory on the reel
- Made for distance casting, with low friction through the rings
- High abrasion resistance and good knot strength for its diameter
- Six breaking strains from 10lb to 23lb, all on 1,000m
Cons
- Fine diameters leave less margin in really heavy snags
- A sinking line, but not a dedicated fast-sinking one
