How's The Construction Quality?

The Fox Halo strip light feels well put together for the price. The housing is solid plastic that doesn't feel cheap or flimsy. It's not got an IP rating like premium lights, but it's built to handle normal bivvy use without issues.

The magnetic backing is strong enough to stay put once mounted. The metal securing plate that comes with it is decent quality, not the thin stamped metal you sometimes get with budget lights. Attaches to your bivvy fabric with no problems.

Remote control works well and feels reasonably robust. The buttons have good tactile feedback, so you know when you've pressed them. I've had mine over a year and it's still going strong, no connection issues.

The camera thread on the bottom is a nice touch. Standard tripod fitting means you can mount it on a bankstick with an adaptor or use it on a proper camera tripod for fish photography. Adds versatility that most bivvy lights don't have.

Does The Strip Design Work Well?

The strip light design gives you better coverage than traditional single-point bivvy lights. The LEDs are spread along the length, so you get more even illumination across the bivvy interior. No harsh shadows or dark corners like you sometimes get with compact lights.

You get three colours (white, green and red). The white is bright enough for general tasks like sorting tackle or tying rigs. Red is useful for preserving night vision when you're checking rods.

Green provides an alternative if you prefer it, though I mainly stick to white and red.

Brightness adjustment via the remote works smoothly. Press and hold to increase or decrease, single press to change colour. It's intuitive once you've used it a couple of times.

The variable brightness means you can dial it right down for ambient lighting or crank it up when you need to see properly.

The strip design is particularly good if you've got a longer bivvy or want to light up a wider area. Mount it along the roof and you get excellent coverage. Also brilliant for fish photography when mounted on a tripod or bankstick.

Will The Battery Last A Session?

The standard 4800mAh battery gives you solid runtime. On white you're looking at 20-100 hours depending on brightness setting. Red lasts 30-100 hours, green 20-150 hours. That'll easily cover a weekend session, even on higher brightness.

There's also a larger 7200mAh version if you want extended runtime or do longer sessions. That pushes the numbers up to 25-110 hours on white, 30-110 hours on red, 30-160 hours on green. Handy if you're doing a full week on the bank.

Charging time is 8.5 hours for the standard battery, 11.5 hours for the large. That's basically overnight. USB-C charging is convenient since most modern devices use the same cable now.

The USB output port means you can use it as an emergency powerbank for your phone. The 4800mAh won't give you multiple charges like the NGT with its 10400mAh, but it's there if you need it.

Is It Worth The Money?

The Fox Halo strip light sits in the middle of the pack price-wise. It's more expensive than budget options like the Fox Halo standard light, but cheaper than premium offerings like the Ridgemonkey Vault IR180.

What you're paying for is the strip design and the remote control operation. If you want wide-area coverage or plan on using it for fish photography, those features are genuinely useful. The camera thread is a nice bonus that adds functionality beyond just bivvy lighting.

The remote control is where it earns its keep. Being able to adjust brightness and change colours without getting up is more convenient than you'd think, especially on cold nights when you're tucked up in your sleeping bag.

For anglers who want something more versatile than a standard bivvy light, this is solid value. The strip design works particularly well for larger bivvies or photography purposes.
