Drennan's Red Range Float Fish Mk2 does not carry the premium blank technology or component branding of the Vertex and Acolyte families above it.
What it offers instead is an honest progressive-carbon action, a 3-6lb line class, and a price that comes in around sixty quid for either length.
For me, that is a fair trade at the entry tier. This is Drennan's budget float rod, and it targets the angler who wants the Drennan name without the flagship price. The action is where the money goes.
Drennan describe it as forgiving enough for silverfish on light hooklengths, with reserve power to cope when a bonus chub or carp takes hold.
I'd say that balance matters more than component branding at this level. An overly stiff budget blank punishes light lines and an overly soft one gives nothing back on the strike.
The 3-6lb line class gives room to scale from delicate stick-float work at the light end to heavier lines when bigger fish turn up.
