Product Information

Ugly Stik's Elite Boat Rod is the brand's mid-range sea boat offering, built for anglers fishing from a vessel across a range of saltwater conditions. It is available in three line classes , 12-20lb, 20-30lb and 30-50lb , all in the same 7ft 4in long tip, short butt configuration that keeps the rod compact for use in confined boat spaces.

The blank uses Ugly Tech construction, Ugly Stik's composite combining graphite and fibreglass, which gives the rod a degree of toughness suited to the knocks and handling of regular boat fishing. Guides are Ugly Tuff one-piece stainless steel with a PVD hard coating, designed to resist corrosion in saltwater without a separate ceramic ring insert as a potential weak point.

The two heavier variants , 20-30lb and 30-50lb , come supplied with a butt gimbal for use with a fighting belt or rod holder when playing larger fish. The 12-20lb version suits lighter inshore work where a gimbal is less likely to be needed.

All three are covered by Ugly Stik's 7-year warranty. The Elite sits above the GX2 in Ugly Stik's boat rod range, with the same Ugly Tech and Ugly Tuff specification applied across a more refined overall build.

Features and Specifications

Feature What this means
Blank: Ugly Tech (Graphite and Fibreglass Composite) Ugly Tech is the name for Ugly Stik composite blank construction combining graphite and fibreglass. Fibreglass adds toughness and resistance to impact compared to a pure graphite blank, which suits the demands of boat fishing where rods regularly take knocks against gunwales and gaffs.
Guides: Ugly Tuff One-Piece Stainless Steel, PVD Coated Ugly Tuff guides are one-piece stainless steel with a PVD hard coating rather than a separate ceramic ring insert, removing the insert as a potential failure point. The stainless construction is saltwater resistant, making them suitable for sea boat fishing.
Design: Long Tip, Short Butt The long tip, short butt configuration is standard on boat rods, keeping the overall rod compact while maximising the working section. This makes vertical jigging and working baits up and down through the water column more practical in a confined boat space.
Handle: Full EVA with Etched Logo EVA foam handle across all variants, with the Ugly Stik logo etched into the butt end rather than printed. EVA is the standard handle material for sea rods as it is unaffected by salt water and easy to clean after a session.
Butt Gimbal: Supplied on 20-30lb and 30-50lb Versions A gimbal fits into a rod holder or fighting belt to stop the rod rotating when fighting a heavy fish. The 12-20lb version does not include a gimbal; the heavier 20-30lb and 30-50lb models are supplied with one as standard.
Available Models: 7ft 4in in 12-20lb / 20-30lb / 30-50lb | Warranty: 7 Years Three line-class options in the same 7ft 4in length. The 12-20lb is the lightest option, suited to inshore species and lighter boat fishing. The 20-30lb covers mid-range boat fishing and wreck work. The 30-50lb is the heavy class option for larger species and deeper water. Ugly Stik back the Elite range with a 7-year warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What line class is the Ugly Stik Elite Boat Rod?

Three options: 12-20lb, 20-30lb and 30-50lb. All are 7ft 4in with a long tip, short butt design. The 12-20lb suits lighter inshore work; the 20-30lb covers general boat and wreck fishing; the 30-50lb is for heavier species and deeper water.

Does the Ugly Stik Elite Boat Rod come with a gimbal?

The 20-30lb and 30-50lb versions are supplied with a butt gimbal. The 12-20lb version does not include one. A gimbal seats into a rod holder or fighting belt to stop the rod rotating when playing a large fish.

What is Ugly Tech blank construction?

Ugly Tech is Ugly Stik composite blank construction combining graphite and fibreglass. The fibreglass element adds toughness and impact resistance compared to a pure graphite blank, which suits the demands of boat fishing where rods take regular knocks.

What warranty does the Ugly Stik Elite Boat Rod have?

A 7-year warranty across all three variants. This is standard for the Ugly Stik Elite range.

Are the Ugly Stik Elite guides suitable for saltwater fishing?

Yes. The Ugly Tuff guides are one-piece stainless steel with a PVD coating designed to resist corrosion in saltwater. One-piece construction removes the ceramic ring insert found on conventional guides, which can be a failure point in sea fishing conditions.
