The Guru N-Gauge XS Pole Review Summary

Guru’s N-Gauge XS Margin Pole is purpose-built for one thing — power close in. Designed with extreme commercial margin work in mind, it’s a compact 10.0 metre pole with serious backbone and upgraded features throughout.

Whether you’re targeting carp down the edge or just want a reliable short-range tool that slots in alongside your main match pole, the N-Gauge XS delivers.

With ZERO500 Tensile Carbon, UK-manufactured PTFE bushes, and a smart Rigid Joint System to keep the pole tight and stiff under pressure, it’s a proper bit of kit for heavy-handed work.

Although this review focuses on the XS Margin version, it’s worth noting that the pole complements Guru’s longer N-Gauge and Aventus 16m poles and shares top kit compatibility, great for building a system around.

The Key Features Scrutinised

Build Quality & Construction

BUILD QUALITY
8.5

One of the biggest selling points of the N-Gauge XS is how robust it feels without becoming cumbersome. The ZERO500 Tensile Carbon construction makes the blank extremely strong, and the Rigid Joint System stops any unwanted flex or wobble when striking or netting fish.

The carbon finish is slick and clean. Sections feel thick-walled and secure, exactly what you’d expect from a dedicated margin pole designed to deal with hard-fighting carp.

In terms of weight & balance, although it’s only 10m, Guru have packed in plenty of wall strength, so it does feel a touch more “solid” in the hands than some more tapered poles.

That said, it still ships smoothly and is well-balanced for margin work.

Performance & Handling

PERFORMANCE
8.5

In the margins, this pole feels spot on. The Ultra-Fast Taper means it responds quickly when striking and recovering, and the Super Glide Matt Paint Finish combined with Friction-Free Matt Tape helps it ship in and out quickly, even in wet weather.

You can lean into this pole confidently. There’s no hesitation when turning fish, and it doesn’t feel like you’re risking damage when using heavy elastics or short rigs.

Quick Quote
“It’s absolutely spot on for big edge fishing. It feels stiffer than you’d expect from a 10m pole that’s this strong, and there’s no soft spots when you’re really leaning into it.”
