5 Things To Know

  1. The Sonik Gizmo Litez Bob is a fully adjustable bobbin with a high-visibility coloured body.
  2. Its colour-coordinated line clip adjusts through a locking collar to suit different line diameters.
  3. A body twist collar is there for alignment, and a removable 10g screw-in weight fits at the base.
  4. Opti-curve chains in 100mm and 180mm lengths have screw fittings at each end.
  5. The 3 x 15mm isotope slot accepts a plain or matching-colour isotope for use in darkness.

Sonik Gizmo Litez Bob Review

For anglers setting up on a tight budget, the Sonik Gizmo Litez Bob packs a surprising amount of adjustment into a cheap bobbin. It has a high-visibility coloured body, an adjustable tension line clip and a body twist collar for alignment, so you can set it up to suit your line and rods rather than living with a fixed clip.

The Opti-curve chains come in 100mm and 180mm lengths, with screw fittings at each end, and there's a removable 10g screw-in weight at the base. The 3 x 15mm isotope slot takes a plain or matching-colour isotope for night fishing.

I think it's one of the most sensible budget bobbins around, as long as you don't expect a premium finish.

Build quality 7.5/10
Sensitivity & Visibility 8.0/10
Ease of Use 8.5/10
Value for money 9.0/10

How well is it built?

Let's be honest about the build first. This is a budget bobbin, made to a low price, and it isn't in the same class as heads like the Fox Black Label Dumpy Bobbin, with its machined aluminium hockey stick and anodised chain.

That's the reason for the 7.5, rather than any one weak point in the design.

What it does have is more adjustment than you'd expect. The colour-coordinated line clip adjusts through a locking collar, the twist collar on the body lets you turn the head to line everything up, and the weight screws in and out at the base.

The chains screw on at both ends too, which should hold the head securely to the hockey-stick fitting beneath the alarm.

To be fair, a 7.5 for build is still a decent score for a bobbin at this level. It just isn't a machined, premium head, and I think the score reflects that honestly.

Sensitivity & Visibility

How sensitive is a budget bobbin? This one has more going for it than most, thanks to the adjustable tension clip.

The clip adjusts through its locking collar to suit different line diameters, so it should hold the line just firmly enough to keep the head in place, then let go cleanly when a fish takes line.

The removable weight gives you two settings. Take it out for a light head at short range or on slack lines, or leave it in when you need a bit more tension to show drop-backs at medium range.

It isn't a long-range, tight-line head like the Gardner Stainless Bug Indicator, but for most day-ticket fishing it covers the bases.

Visibility is good, as the high-visibility coloured body stands out by day and the isotope slot means it can be lit for the dark with a plain or colour-matched isotope. Overall, I think the 8.0 is fair for a light, adjustable bobbin that's easy to read.

Ease of Use

So, is it easy to set up? Very, once you've had a minute with it. The chain screws into the hockey-stick fitting beneath the alarm, the head screws onto the other end, and the line goes into the clip, which you can tension with the locking collar to suit the line you're using.

The body twist collar is a handy extra, as it lets you turn the head so the clip and isotope face the right way.

With chains in 100mm and 180mm lengths, you can match the drop to how high your alarms sit, and the screw fittings at both ends make swapping between them straightforward.

The only thing to watch is that screw fittings take a little longer to swap than a magnetic or bayonet connection. That's a minor point for a bobbin at this level, and I think the 8.5 is fair for one that's this easy to tune.

Is it good value for money?

This is where the Gizmo Litez Bob really shines. It's one of the cheapest bobbins you can buy, yet it still has an adjustable tension clip, a twist collar for alignment, a removable 10g weight and an isotope slot.

Some budget heads are fixed, with nothing to adjust, so that level of adjustment at this price is very good value.

Next to the Gardner Stainless Bug Indicator, it's lighter and far more adjustable, while the Bug is the heavier, tougher head for tight lines at range. The Trakker Clinga Standard Kit is another simple, light bobbin, but the Gizmo adds the screw-in weight and the tension clip.

I'd recommend the Gizmo Litez Bob to carp anglers starting out, and to anyone kitting out three rods without spending much, who fish short to medium range on club and day-ticket lakes. If you want a premium finish or a head for very long range, it's worth spending more.

Pros

  • Adjustable tension clip suits different line diameters
  • Removable 10g screw-in weight for short or medium range
  • Body twist collar lines the clip and isotope up
  • 3 x 15mm isotope slot takes plain or matching-colour isotopes
  • Opti-curve chains come in 100mm and 180mm lengths

Cons

  • Budget build lacks the finish of dearer machined bobbins
  • Only one 10g weight, so fine tuning is limited
