Product Information

NGT’s XT-7000 is a 7 metre full-carbon whip for fast, simple coarse fishing on canals, ponds and commercials. Its lightweight, responsive build suits short sessions and roving, while the telescopic construction keeps it quick to ship in and out.

The single-piece whip uses seven sections and closes down to 123cm. It is finished in black and blue and supplied with a cloth case.

The XT-7000 is full carbon, which is impressive at this price, and it's a single-piece telescopic design with seven sections that slide out from the butt.

Carbon keeps the weight down compared with a composite whip like the Nytro Impax Elasticated Whip, and that matters a lot more at 7m than it does at 3m or 4m.

It has black upper sections and a blue butt section with a blue butt cap, and the graphics are kept simple. A cloth case comes with it, which helps protect the finer sections when it's rattling around in a holdall or the boot of a car.

To be fair, this is a budget carbon whip, and you shouldn't expect the finish or the fit of the joints of a premium whip like the Drennan Acolyte Pro Whip 800. That's why it scores 7.0 for build, which I think is fair for a basic whip that still gets the carbon right.

What can a 7m whip do that a short one can't? It lets you fish further out on a canal or a commercial, reaching the far shelf or a feature without the fuss of a pole.

With most telescopic whips you can also leave the bottom sections closed to fish a bit shorter, so one whip covers a few lengths.

The carbon blank is light and responsive for its length, which should help with striking at range and with swinging roach, perch, bleak and small skimmers to hand. That's the sort of fishing it's built for, rather than bigger fish.

For me, the length is also its limit. At full stretch, any 7m whip is a long lever to hold out, and a budget blank will feel heavier at the tip than a premium one. I'd use it for shorter sessions and roving rather than a full day held at 7m, and the 7.5 reflects that.

Being telescopic, it's quick to get in and out, as you just extend the sections from the tip down and you're fishing. It closes to 123cm, which fits in a holdall, and the cloth case keeps it tidy and protected.

That's ideal for roving, where you might move swims several times in a session.

Seven sections is a lot to extend and collapse, though, and at 7m you need a clear space above and around you, especially on tree-lined canals or busy commercial banks. A longer whip also takes a bit more practice to control than a short one when you're swinging fish in.

Overall, 8.0 feels right, as it's simple to use but asks a bit more of you than a short tele whip like the Daiwa Ninja Tele Whip. If you've used a whip before, you'll pick it up quickly.

So, is it worth buying? For the length, I think it's very good value. It costs a little less than the Daiwa Ninja Tele Whip, yet gives you more than twice the length in full carbon, and premium whips of a similar length cost many times more, which puts the 9.0 into perspective.

Next to the Nytro Impax Elasticated Whip, it's the stronger choice if you want reach, while the Impax is the easier first whip, with its elastic and rig included. It also makes a sensible second whip for anyone who already owns a short one.

Overall, I'd recommend the XT-7000 to pleasure anglers and rovers who want a long whip for canals, ponds and commercials without spending much.

It suits anglers who want extra reach on a budget, and anyone who fancies trying a long whip before deciding whether a dearer one is worth it.

NGT XT-7000 7m Full Carbon Whip Review

Seven metres of full-carbon whip at a budget price is a lot of reach for very little money, and that's the whole appeal of the NGT XT-7000. It's a seven-section telescopic whip built for quick, simple coarse fishing on canals, ponds and commercials, and it packs down short enough to carry anywhere.

So, where does it fit? It's a whip for roving and short sessions, when you want to reach further out than a 3m or 4m whip allows without setting up a pole and roller. It's basic in places, and you shouldn't expect a premium feel, but I think it does pretty much everything it needs to for the money.
