Product Information

Mobile sessions suit the Trakker Summit X Brolly System, a 55-inch shelter with a space-saving hi-tensile steel nine-rib frame.

Its hunched back and angled sides make more room for a bedchair and kit within the compact footprint, while extended storm sides add coverage around the shelter.

Aquatexx fabric is breathable and fully taped, with a 25,000mm hydrostatic-head rating for a watertight outer cover. A large rear mesh vent and two front Adaptive Ventilation panels promote summer airflow, and the internal vapour shield reduces condensation.

Three internal storage pockets, two rod-retaining straps and a machined aluminium bell-cap are built into the shelter.

The adaptable front infill has letterbox openings and three door treatments: clear PVC, mozzie mesh and solid Aquatexx. At 135cm high, 260cm wide and 200cm deep, the complete system weighs 14.3kg and packs down to 129cm by 24cm diameter.

The heavy-duty NXG carry bag contains the brolly, infill panel, groundsheet, four Quicksticks, T-pegs and solid, clear and mozzie windows.

Trakker Summit X Brolly System Review

A brolly system sits somewhere between a day shelter and a full bivvy, and the Trakker Summit X Brolly System leans firmly towards the bivvy end. It's a 55-inch brolly on a black hi-tensile steel nine-rib frame, with a hunched back and angled sides that free up room for a bedchair and kit, plus a front infill that closes it in when the weather turns.

So, what sets it apart from a standard brolly? The outer is breathable Aquatexx with a 25,000mm hydrostatic head and fully taped seams, and an internal vapour shield cuts condensation. Three door treatments, a groundsheet and four Quicksticks come in the bag too, so it's a proper overnight shelter for mobile carp anglers rather than a quick cover for a day.

How well is it built?

The standout figure is the 25,000mm hydrostatic head on the Aquatexx outer. That's two and a half times the 10,000mm of the Solar Tackle Worldwide Brolly System, so the Summit X is built to shrug off long spells of heavy rain with plenty in hand.

The fabric breathes as well, and every seam is fully taped.

The frame is space-saving black hi-tensile steel with nine ribs, finished with a machined aluminium bell-cap, and that's the kind of fitting you'd hope for on a premium system.

Inside, there's a lightweight vapour shield, three internal storage pockets and two rod-retaining straps, so it's as well thought out as it is tough.

Is there anything to pick at? Steel isn't the lightest material for a frame, and it adds to the weight of the whole kit, but it should stay stiff and hard-wearing for a long time. For me, the build is the strongest part of the Summit X, and I think the 8.9 is fair.

Wind Resistance & Stability

Much of the stability comes from the shape. The hunched back and angled sides give the Summit X a rounded profile, and the extended storm sides wrap further round, so wind and rain from the side should have less to grab hold of and less room to get in.

Four Quicksticks come in the bag, and these are Trakker's extendable sticks for adding stability to a shelter, along with T-pegs to pin it down.

With the infill panel and the solid Aquatexx door fitted, it closes up much like a small bivvy, which is what you want when the weather turns overnight.

In a proper downpour, the 25,000mm Aquatexx and taped seams should keep you bone dry, although a 55-inch brolly is still smaller and more open to the elements than a full bivvy in a winter gale. To be fair, that's true of any brolly system, and I think it's very stable for one.

The 8.8 reflects that.

Coverage & Adjustability

Pitched, the Summit X stands 135cm high, 260cm wide and 200cm deep. That 200cm depth is generous for a 55-inch brolly, and because the shape makes more of the compact footprint, a standard bedchair should fit with space left over for a rucksack and a bucket.

The front is where the system earns its name. The infill panel has letterbox openings, and there are three door treatments to swap between, clear PVC for watching the rods in the rain, mozzie mesh for warm nights and solid Aquatexx for full cover.

A groundsheet comes with it as well.

Ventilation is well covered too, with a large rear mesh vent and two front Adaptive Ventilation panels to keep air moving in summer, plus the vapour shield to cut condensation when it's cold.

For mobile anglers who want one shelter for most of the year, I think that adaptability is a real strength, and it's why the 8.8 is well earned.

Is it good value for money?

There's no getting away from it, the Summit X is one of the dearer shelters you can buy for day sessions and overnighters, and it's a lot dearer than the Solar Tackle Worldwide Brolly System.

What you get for the extra is the 25,000mm breathable outer, the steel nine-rib frame, three door treatments, a groundsheet, a vapour shield and four Quicksticks, all packed into a heavy-duty NXG carry bag.

That's a lot of kit, and the complete Summit X model weighs 14.3kg, so it's heavier to carry than a basic brolly and I'd want a barrow for longer walks. Is it worth it?

Buying a brolly, an infill, door panels and storm sticks separately soon mounts up, and with the Summit X it all arrives matched.

Overall, I'd recommend the Summit X to carp anglers who fish overnighters and short sessions, want bivvy-like protection in a compact 55-inch footprint, and are happy to pay for a breathable, high-spec outer.
