Sonik AXS-V2 Bivvy official video - YouTube
The Sonik AXS-V2 Bivvy is the second version of Sonik's quick-erect AXS, and it's a one-person bivvy that's been specified for proper weather. The canopy is now made from Sonik's 16,000mm Cloudbase+ fabric, and it's built around the AXS Alloy centre hub with a lightweight anti-twist 6061 aluminium frame and reinforced poles in the high-stress areas.
There are plenty of useful touches too, including an oversized front peak with a rain drip guard, a heavy-duty groundsheet, rear vents you can open from inside and two storm poles in the bag. At 9.6kg and 150cm long when packed it isn't the lightest, but for the money I think it's one of the better-equipped one-man bivvies you can buy.
Sonik have built the AXS-V2 around their AXS Alloy central hub, which is the heart of the quick-erect system, and paired it with a lightweight anti-twist frame made from 6061 aluminium.
The poles are reinforced in the high-stress areas too, and that's exactly where I'd want extra strength on a bivvy that's going to be put up and taken down a lot.
The canopy uses Sonik's Cloudbase+ fabric, which they describe as tough, light and extremely waterproof. The frame is shaped with a high flat back and steep sides, so more of the floor is usable and there's more headroom than you'd get from a rounder dome.
The finishing is good as well, with front and rear internal pockets, a zip on/off front panel with mozzi side windows, and a two-way letterbox door with green and clear panel options. For a bivvy in this part of the market, I think it's a well thought-out package.
That 16,000mm hydrostatic head is a strong figure for a bivvy in this price range, and it's higher than the 10,000mm on the plain Trakker Tempest 100 and 150.
The oversized front peak has a rain drip guard and is big enough to cover your bedchair and kit, which helps keep the doorway dry when the rain is coming down hard.
Sonik include two 48in quick-connect storm poles and heavy-duty T-pegs, so you've got proper support for windy nights straight out of the bag. The clip-in or zip-in groundsheet also has a fold-back entry flap, which makes it easier to keep the entrance clean and dry.
Ventilation has been well thought through, because the three-way rear vents can be opened from inside the bivvy and the integral Watershed vent spacer bars keep air flowing even when it's wet, which I'd expect to help cut down on condensation.
Sonik say the AXS Alloy hub and anti-twist frame give an ultra-quick and super stable setup, and the whole design is aimed at getting it up without fuss. The front door system is fully customisable too, so you can change the front over as the weather changes.
Portability is where it gives a little ground, because the AXS-V2 weighs 9.6kg and packs down to 150 x 27cm, which is longer than the 125cm of the Trakker Tempest 100, and that pack length is the main reason I haven't marked it higher here.
It does come in an oversized compression-style bag, which should make packing away less of a battle.
Once it's up, the 260cm width, 175cm depth and 137cm height give one angler plenty of room for a bedchair and kit. For most anglers working from a barrow, the weight won't be a problem.
The AXS-V2 sits in the middle of the market, priced close to the Solar Undercover Camo Brolly System and a little below the Fox Frontier Lite, and I think it holds its own on spec against both.
The 16,000mm fabric, alloy hub, groundsheet, two storm poles and heavy-duty T-pegs are all included, so there's very little else to buy before your first night under it.
The AXS-V2 Vapour Cap and Wrap are available separately if you want more insulation for winter, and the bigger AXS-V2 XL is there if you need more room or more headroom.
It suits carp anglers fishing on their own who want a well-equipped, weatherproof one-man bivvy for overnighters and longer UK sessions, and who are happy to find space for a long pack on the barrow.
