How Well Is This Built?

The Z30 Elite MK2 has a standout sleek design with a high-quality lightweight aluminium Zed frame. There's nothing to go wrong with it, it's properly engineered. The 30mm diameter legs have telescopic inners and threaded screw inserts for accessories.

For most anglers fishing commercials or natural venues, 30mm legs are spot on (you don't need the chunkier 36mm legs unless you're constantly wading into deep water without a platform).

The adjustability mechanism with large swivel mud feet The sliding footplate uses twist-lock locking pins. You pull the two clips out from the side, give them a quarter turn, it extends out, then quarter turn back and it locks in place solid.

The footplate is now fully removable, which makes cleaning and transport much easier.

The large diameter swivel mud feet bite into soft ground brilliantly. I've used this on uneven riverbanks and once you've got it level, it's stable. The 9.0 build score reflects that this is a properly built seatbox that won't let you down.

Is There Enough Storage?

The Z30 Elite MK2 comes with one shallow drawer unit, one deep drawer unit, one shallow tray unit, and a stacker lid with carrying handle. The Zed frame design means you can have units underneath with your stack of pole rigs.

The new improved stacking system lets you mix and match deep and shallow trays in any order you choose. That's proper versatility, you can set it up exactly how you fish.

The drawers have neoprene rubber seals (water-resistant seals) that keep everything dry even when you're sat out in the rain without a brolly. When you shut the drawers, water doesn't seep down your coat and into the units.

The clips on the drawers are dead easy, just clip from side to side for opening and shutting. I've never had one break. The drawers themselves open and shut perfectly even when you're sat on the box, you don't have to get up or tug at them.

You can get drawer organisers and dividers for the units if you want to get technical with your storage. They just drop straight into the drawers, already sized for you. The 8.5 storage score reflects that this gives you plenty of room and flexibility for most fishing styles.

Can You Fish Comfortably All Day?

The fully waterproof PU moulded pole seat is comfortable and properly padded. It's UV protected so it won't crack or fade after a season in the sun.

The pole seat has an aluminium skeleton frame underneath that takes your weight when you're sat on the box, instead of putting pressure on the trays below. That means the drawers still slide open easily when you're sat down, something that bugs me on cheaper boxes.

The pole support built into the seat is positioned just right. When you're pole fishing, you can rest the butt in there and take the weight off your arms. The box is really light, which makes a difference when you're carrying it to your peg.

It comes with a padded carry strap that spreads the weight.

Is It Worth £510?

At around £510, the MAP Z30 Elite MK2 sits in that sweet spot where you're getting premium features without paying flagship prices. For what you get (aluminium Zed frame, water-resistant seals, flexible stacking system, UV-protected seat), it's strong value.

In my eyes, this seatbox for the money is one of the best on the market. The build quality means this isn't a box you'll be replacing in two years.

The fact that you can customise the drawer combinations means it adapts to different fishing styles, whether you're feeder fishing, pole fishing, or waggler work.
