The Fox EOS 10000 is one of the most popular reels on the market today and having put it through its paces, I can understand why. Not only is it built with quality materials, it is well balanced, performs well and is very competitively priced.
The build quality is impressive for a reel with this low price point. The graphite body is lightweight and durable at 558g, and the CNC machined handle is comfortable to use. One thing you really notice is how smooth it is for a budget reel. I feel this is down to the 5+1 ball bearings which are made from quality stainless steel.
It really does make the retrieve feel fluid and provides significant cranking power. The 5.5:1 gear ratio is significantly faster than the 4.6:1 used by most Shimano and Daiwa baitrunners. The oversized line roller reduces line twist and ensures smooth line lay, contributing to longer, more accurate casts.
The rear drag baitrunner system was both efficient and smooth in testing. It is nothing to write home about but it did the job and I never encountered any problems. Fox does not publish a maximum drag figure for this model.
It is finished off with a sleek, modern design with a matte black finish that gives it a real stylish and professional appearance. Scoring 9.0 on value for money, it is clear to see that you really do get a quality piece of kit for a price point usually seen in much more inferior reels.

It did the job and I never encountered any problems when testing it.

The 5+1 bearing setup helps the clutch operate smoothly through its range. Adjustment is predictable, though it lacks the fine granularity of premium drag systems.
It is nothing to write home about but it does the job reliably. For typical carp fishing on day-ticket and club waters, the drag performs exactly as it needs to.

At around £58 you get an aluminium construction, 5+1 bearings and a 5.5:1 gear ratio. No other reel at this price matches that spec sheet.
I would highly recommend this reel certainly to those that are new to the sport but also for more experienced anglers that just want a really decent carp reel without breaking the bank.
