Westin W2 Finesse T&C Travel Rod 7ft 1in
Product Information
The Westin W2 Finesse T&C Travel Rod is a fast-action spinning rod for Texas and Carolina rigs, hard lures and soft lures. Its sensitive, responsive action transmits bottom contact and timid bites when a rig is worked slowly.
The four-section construction packs down for transport without compromising performance. A 24/30 tonne High Performance Carbon blank carries a Seaguide XVS reel seat, Seaguide SXOHLSG premium guides, a split EVA handle and Seaguide Dhook hook keeper.
At 7ft 1in or 213cm, this ML model casts 5 to 15g and weighs 121g. Its 64cm transport length suits the four-piece layout, while the blank has power for small hard lures and sensitivity for soft shads.

Westin W2 Finesse T&C Travel Rod 7ft 1in Review
Texas and Carolina rigs need a rod with a sensitive tip and enough backbone to drive a hook through soft plastic, and that's exactly what the Westin W2 Finesse T&C Travel is built around. It's a 7ft 1in, or 213cm, four-piece spinning rod rated ML and casting 5-15g, and it breaks down to a 64cm transport length.
So, who's it for? Perch and zander anglers who work rigs slowly along the bottom and want a rod that travels well. The blank is 24/30 tonne High Performance Carbon with a fast, sensitive and responsive action, and it carries a Seaguide XVS reel seat, Seaguide SXOHLSG guides, a split EVA handle and a Seaguide Dhook keeper.
How well is it built?
At 121g, this is a very light rod, and it's the four-piece layout that makes it a travel rod rather than a telescopic.
The 24/30 tonne High Performance Carbon blank is the same material used in the Westin W2 Tele Spin, and it's a good balance of feel and durability for a finesse rod.
The fittings are all Seaguide, with an XVS reel seat, SXOHLSG premium guides and a Dhook keeper to hold the hook when you're moving swims. The split handle is premium grade EVA, which keeps weight down and gives a comfortable grip for long spells of working a rig.
Why 8.5? The components are quality throughout, and a four-piece blank has far fewer joints than a nine or eleven-section telescopic. To be fair, it isn't at the level of the Daiwa Saltist Travel, but for a light travel rod I think the build is very good.
How well does it cast and feel?
The fast action is what makes this rod. It gives a sensitive, responsive tip that transmits bottom contact and timid bites when a rig is crawled slowly, which is exactly what Texas and Carolina fishing is all about.
With 5-15g on the blank, it suits light bullet weights, small soft lures and small hard lures.
As a general point, a four-piece travel rod is usually closer in action to a two-piece than a telescopic is, because there are fewer joints for the curve to pass through. That should help it feel like a normal finesse rod rather than a travel compromise.
At 7ft 1in, it's a handy length for accurate casting along margins, weed edges and other features, and it's short enough to work a rig with small, controlled lifts of the tip. I think 8.5 is a fair score for a rod this sensitive.
How does it perform when playing fish?
Playing fish scores a touch lower because the rod is rated ML and casts 5-15g, so it's a light rod. That's ideal for perch, bass and zander, and the fast action should still give you enough backbone to set a hook and steer a fish away from snags.
It isn't a pike rod, though, and 5-15g is far too light for a big pike. If you're fishing waters where pike are likely to take, a wire trace is the safe choice, and a heavier rod is the right tool if pike are what you're really after.
Is 8.0 fair? I think so, because within its range, the blend of power for small hard lures and sensitivity for soft shads should handle most perch and zander comfortably.
The split EVA handle gives a secure grip when a fish is on, and the light blank should make even an average perch feel lively.
Is it good value for money?
This is a mid-priced travel rod, and value scores 8.0 because you're getting quality Seaguide fittings, a light 24/30 tonne blank and a 64cm transport length in one package. It's a specialist rod, though, and that limits how many anglers will get full use from it.
Next to the Westin W2 Tele Spin, it's the more focused choice, built for rigs and finesse lures, while the Tele Spin covers a wider spread of casting weights.
Against the Westin W2 Deadbait Easy Travel Tele, it's a completely different tool, as that's a heavy pike rod for deadbaits.
Overall, I'd recommend the W2 Finesse T&C Travel to perch and zander anglers who fish Texas and Carolina rigs and want a rod that fits in a suitcase or a small car. If you need one travel rod for every kind of lure, a rod with a wider casting range will suit you better.
