What's The Build Like?

The NGT Quickfish is basic budget construction, and that's exactly what you'd expect at this price. The 210D PVC material is soft and fish-friendly but noticeably thinner than premium options.

It does the job for occasional use but you can tell it's not built for years of heavy sessions.

The padding is adequate rather than generous. There's cushioning there, but it's not thick foam like the Sonik Xtractor's 50mm dual density. For typical UK carp it provides reasonable protection, but I wouldn't use this for 30lb plus fish regularly.

The Velcro straps work fine for keeping everything folded. They're not premium quality but they hold, which is all you need. The stitching looks decent enough, no loose threads or obvious weak points from the factory.

The drainage mesh is basic but functional. It drains water through without pooling, though the mesh is coarser than premium cradles. The two-panel protective cover is lightweight and does what it needs to, shields fish from sun and wind during handling.

This isn't kit you'll use for decades, but it's not meant to be. For starter anglers learning fish care or experienced anglers wanting a backup cradle, the build quality is acceptable for the price. Just don't expect premium durability.

Does It Protect Fish Adequately?

For typical UK carp up to around 20lb, the Quickfish provides adequate protection. The padding cushions fish from ground contact and the soft PVC material won't damage slime. It's basic but functional fish care for most fishing situations.

The drainage mesh works well enough. Water doesn't pool around fish, drains through at a reasonable rate. The mesh is fish-friendly when wet, no sharp edges or rough surfaces. Fish aren't sitting in standing water which is the main thing.

The two-panel protective cover is genuinely useful. Being able to shield fish from direct sun or wind during handling reduces stress, particularly on warm days. It's a thoughtful inclusion at this price point, shows NGT put some consideration into fish welfare.

The 100cm × 65cm dimensions are smaller than premium cradles. For 20-25lb fish it's fine, but bigger carp start looking cramped. The 35cm depth provides reasonable containment though you don't have rigid side walls like frame cradles.

Where this falls short is with really big fish or lively specimens. The padding isn't as substantial as options like the JRC Cocoon 2G, and there's no rigid structure to prevent fish thrashing about.

For starter anglers or 90% of typical fishing situations it's adequate, but dedicated big fish anglers should spend more.

How Easy Is It To Move?

This is where budget cradles like the Quickfish genuinely compete with premium options. It's lightweight and folds flat with minimal fuss. For portability, you're getting 80-90% of what expensive cradles offer.

Setup is genuinely instant. Unfold it and you're ready, no legs to adjust or frame to assemble. When fish are on and you need to get sorted quickly, the simplicity is brilliant. Fold it back up, secure the Velcro straps, and you're packed away in seconds.

The lightweight construction makes carrying easy. It's not going to strain your back or dominate your barrow space. For mobile sessions or stalking, the low weight is genuinely useful even if it comes at the expense of some protection.

The compact folded size fits in most fishing bags or rucksacks. You're not lugging around a bulky frame cradle, makes it practical for short sessions or when you're already carrying a lot of gear. The Velcro straps keep everything secured during transport.

For anglers who move swims regularly or do shorter sessions, the portability advantage is real. You might sacrifice some protection compared to the Trakker Sanctuary, but you gain significant convenience. It's a trade-off that makes sense for certain fishing styles.

Is The Budget Price Justified?

At the budget end, the NGT Quickfish is the cheapest option in our testing. It's less than half the price of the JRC Cocoon 2G, and a fraction of the cost of the Trakker Sanctuary. What you're getting is adequate fish protection for typical situations.

It's not premium quality, but it covers the basics of fish care. For starter anglers learning the ropes or experienced anglers wanting a backup option, the price makes it accessible.

The protective cover is a nice inclusion at this price. Many budget options skip features like this, but NGT included it which shows some thought went into the design. The drainage mesh and instant setup add practical value beyond just being cheap.

The portability means it's genuinely useful even for anglers with premium gear. Having a lightweight backup cradle in the van for stalking sessions or quick trips makes sense. You're not risking much money if it gets damaged or lost.

The main question is durability and whether you'll outgrow it quickly. For occasional use or learning fish care, it's brilliant value. For serious anglers fishing multiple times per week, spending more on something like the Korda Basix or the Sonik Xtractor might be wiser.
