Feature | What This Means |
---|---|
High-Modulus Carbon Blanks | Constructed from a stiff, lightweight, and strong carbon fibre material. High-modulus carbon allows for a thinner rod blank, improving sensitivity to detect bites and making it easier to handle for long periods. Ideal for fighting larger predator fish. |
Fast Action | Designed to flex primarily near the tip, providing quick responsiveness. This enhances lure control, allows for precise casts, and improves hook-setting when a fish strikes. Perfect for techniques requiring finesse. |
Light and Balanced Design | The rod’s weight is evenly distributed, making it comfortable to use over long sessions. It reduces fatigue and improves overall handling, critical for repetitive casting in lure fishing. |
Four-Piece Travel Construction | The rod can be disassembled into four sections for compact storage and transport. This is ideal for anglers who travel or need a rod that’s easy to carry in a backpack or luggage. |
Versatile Lure Fishing Options | The rod is available in configurations suited to various techniques, including light spinning, dropshotting, jerk casting, and vertical spinning, allowing anglers to match their gear to their specific style of fishing. |
Length and Casting Weight | The Travel Heavy Spin model is 240cm long (7’10”) with a casting weight of 30-100g. This range is ideal for medium to large lures. The Medium version also measures 240cm (7 feet 10 inches) in length and has a casting weight range of 15-35g, making it suitable for small to medium-sized lures. |
Subtle Styling | Finished with a sleek, understated design that maintains a professional look while prioritising performance. |

When rating the build quality of a rod, consideration has been given to the basic components.
These include the materials used in the blank, handle, reel seat, and line guides.
We also take into account any additional features that make life on the bank easier for anglers.
How a rod casts is one of the key fundamentals that determine a great rod from a mediocre one.
Easy, frictionless casting that provides accuracy and distance is all rated in this category.
The ability to play fish effectively is an important feature of any fishing rod.
Fishing is a sport, and as part of this sport, feeling the pulls, lunges, and the fight of a fish is an exhilarating experience.
This is all taken into account when rating fishing rods.
How much any fishing rod costs is always a key factor in an angler's final choice.
A rod can have all the bells and whistles under the sun, but if it is unaffordable, it may not be the best choice for some anglers.
This rating considers how the rod performs in all the other categories versus its price point.
The Fox Rage Prism X Travel Rod demonstrates Fox’s expertise in creating practical, high-performance fishing tackle that doesn’t break the bank. The high-modulus carbon blank construction provides an excellent balance of strength and sensitivity while maintaining a surprisingly lightweight feel for a travel rod.
I was particularly impressed with how the four sections come together. There’s minimal movement at the joints and the overall feel is remarkably similar to a one or two-piece design. When testing various soft plastics and small jerk baits, the fast action provided excellent feedback, and I could detect even subtle takes that might otherwise have been missed.
During a recent trip where I had to pack light, this rod proved invaluable. I managed to land several decent pike up to 8lbs, and the blank had more than enough power to control them effectively. The casting accuracy was very good with me hitting spots around overhanging trees at 30 yards with 30g lures fairly consistently. The recovery speed particularly impressed me, allowing for good lure control even when working faster retrieves.
What stands out most is how little compromise there is compared to a one-piece, telescopic travel rod. While setting up takes an extra minute, the performance rivals standard rods while offering the convenience of packing down to a mere 65cm.
For travelling anglers or those tight on storage space, the Fox Rage Prism X Travel Rod is an excellent solution that doesn’t sacrifice performance for practicality.

Casting Ability: – Without stating the obvious here, we test how the rod casts both short distances and longer distances. We are examining how smooth the cast is and how much effort is required to gain the desired distance.
Playing Fish: – Here, we are looking at how a rod can dictate a fight, i.e. its power, how subtle it is and most importantly how enjoyable it is to play fish on.Â
