How well is it built?

Fox have absolutely nailed it with the Horizon X4S. The high modulus carbon construction feels premium from the moment you pick it up, it's light but you can tell it's built to last. What we really like about this net is the increased diameter on both the handle and the arms.

Most nets on the market use thinner carbon that flexes like mad when you're trying to scoop up a thirty+. Fox have gone thicker and the difference is immediately noticeable.

The stainless steel spreader block and spigots are a masterstroke. I've wrestled with plenty of nets over the years where the joints either won't go together or won't come apart without a fight. These?

They slide together smoothly every time and the tolerances are spot on because stainless steel allows for much tighter engineering than plastic or aluminium ever could.

The 2K carbon wrap finish matches the X4S rods perfectly, though even if you don't fish Fox rods, this net looks the business next to any setup.

The Japanese shrink wrap handle gives you excellent grip even with wet hands and it's tough enough that I can't see it wearing out anytime soon.

Handle & Spreader

The handle on this net is genuinely brilliant. That increased diameter I mentioned? It completely eliminates the flex you get with standard net poles.

I tested the 8ft two-piece version and honestly, it's become my go-to. The extra 2ft of reach has saved me more times than I'd like to admit, especially when fishing zigs or trying to net a fish from an awkward angle.

Mesh

The Fox camo mesh looks great but more importantly, it's properly fish-friendly. It's soft enough to protect the carp but durable enough that I haven't seen any signs of wear after several months of use.

The free-flowing design is spot on. The net glides through the water with minimal resistance which makes that final scoop so much easier. You're not fighting against the mesh - it just slips under the fish naturally.

Fox have reinforced the corners where the mesh meets the arms which is exactly where cheaper nets tend to fail first. These reinforced sections feel bomb proof and I'm confident they'll stand up to years of use without tearing or coming away from the arms.

The mesh stays relatively snag-free too. I fish some weedy venues and while no net is completely immune to picking up bits of weed, this one shakes clean pretty easily.

Is it good value for money?

Here's where the Horizon X4S really shines. It's genuinely exceptional value for what you're getting. Compare it to something like the Korda Spring Bow and you're saving a fair bit.

Both are quality nets but the Korda's spring-loaded arms, while clever, don't actually make enough difference to justify more than doubling the price. You're paying for innovation rather than practical benefit.

The truth is, landing nets don't need all-singing, all-dancing features. What you need is solid build quality, a handle that won't let you down and mesh that's kind to fish. The Horizon X4S delivers all three without charging you a premium for gimmicks.

The stainless steel components mean this net will still be going strong decades from now. I've seen plenty of cheaper nets where the spreader block cracks or the spigots corrode within a couple of seasons.

With the X4S, that's simply not going to happen and when you factor in longevity, the value proposition gets even better.
